Delta South MLA Ian Paton is once again sounding off on the transportation minister over the fate of the suspended George Massey Tunnel Replacement Project.

Paton yesterday wasted no time criticizing Claire Trevena when she said she expected to have the independent technical review of the project on her desk by the end of this month and she’d need the entire summer to properly review the findings. …

Metro Vancouver mayors had voiced opposition to multi-billion dollar bridge project including Richmond’s Malcolm Brodie. In a statement he noted his city recognizes the urgent need to address traffic congestion around the Massey Tunnel.

“But the bridge project, as currently proposed, is not the best way to achieve these objectives.”

Richmond engineering staff last summer put forward two alternatives, both of which involve retaining the existing crossing.
