Richmond has a new top cop

Supt. Will Ng — who will take over from the outgoing superintendent Rennie Nesset in mid-April — started his policing career in 1995 in Surrey, where he worked multiple roles, including four years in general duty.

In 2004, he joined the RCMP undercover unit, eventually transferring to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) in 2009 where he became an accredited team commander.

His last assignment was as Acting Deputy Operations Officer at the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU-BC), where he was also a member of the Operations Advisory Committee. …

“(Ng’s) impressive service record and knowledge of our community will be great assets as he helps lead the effort to sustain and build upon public safety in Richmond,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie.

“Community safety is a major priority for Richmond City Council, which has approved the hiring of 22 additional police officers over the past two years. We look forward to working with Supt. Ng and his team in addressing our community’s key policing priorities.” …
