Mayor Malcolm Brodie said the port stands to benefit by offering a favourable ruling, since the proponent needs port land to build a tank farm for jet fuel. “If nothing else it gives you that conflict. It’s in your financial interest to say this is a good idea,” Brodie told port officials. “If you’re financially involved in a decision, that gives you a conflict and you have to get away from it. You cannot be a decision-maker in that kind of situation.”
“This is the largest single application the city has ever received, and the vision is for an international destination for shopping and entertainment, the likes of which you’d have to go to Asia…or at least Los Angeles, to see on this scale,” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie, who revealed details of the proposal at a Richmond Chamber of Commerce luncheon Tuesday.
